Memoir as Discovery: How an Immigrant Story Informs the Present

Join us for an evening with author and Episcopal priest Leyla K. King as she reflects on the power of memoir to reveal hidden histories and illuminate the present. Drawing from her book, Daughters of Palestine: A Memoir in Five Generations, Leyla will share stories of five generations of Palestinian Christian women whose lives unfold across continents, upheaval, resilience, and enduring faith.

In her talk, “Memoir as Discovery: How an Immigrant Story Informs the Present,” Leyla invites us to consider how personal narrative becomes a lens for understanding identity, displacement, belonging, and hope. Through her family’s journey from Palestine to Texas, she explores the ways memory and storytelling help us make meaning in a fractured world.

This gathering offers a thoughtful, heartfelt space to engage with themes of heritage, courage, and the ties that carry us forward.
